Productivity

Nowadays we find ourselves in a moment where everyone talks about productivity, terms related to it and that we have to be more productive in our daily lives, whether work or personal, but do you think we really know what this entails? ? Could you define what productivity is in three lines? What idea do you have of her? True, it would be difficult for you, well let's digress a little about this very fashionable and little-known term.

What is productivity?

If we go online and do a couple of simple searches we can see, for example on Wikipedia, they explain it as the relationship between the amount of products obtained by a production system and the resources used to obtain said production. In other words, it can also be defined as the relationship between the results and the time used to obtain them: the shorter the time it takes to obtain the desired result, the more productive the system is.

On the other hand, the RAE is defined as a concept that describes the capacity or level of production per unit of cultivated land, work land or industrial equipment.

But if we try to simplify this definition we could say that productivity is defined as the efficiency indicator that relates the amount of resources used with the amount of production obtained.

And what does it mean for you to be productive?

How many times have we said: “I want to be more productive” and you are really not clear about what that means. This is because each one has to answer a question which is the following; What does it mean to you to be productive?

This question can only be answered by you, you can rely on what has already been mentioned above, so I think the time has come for you to spend a few minutes thinking about what “your” definition of productivity is, which will help you apply it to your life.

I'm going to give you a hand and tell you in a few words what being productive means to me. For me it consists of knowing how to decide what I want and what I don't want to do, knowing how to choose what is best for each moment, even if I am often wrong (learning), being able to “do” everything I have decided to do and forget about stress.

Now that we have the ideas better organized and that I have given you some clues, let's move on to the next question.

How do I apply it to my life/business?

Up to this point, it seems easy to understand what productivity is, but many times the talk saturates our brain and we feel overwhelmed, leaving us with a face of indifference that indicates that we have not understood anything and we are not able to take that idea and materialize it into actions. to make it effective. Well, we are going to go in parts and analyze ourselves to see how we can apply this concept in our lives.

Surely, you are aware that throughout your work day, you have some moments in which you are “more awake” than others. These moments of lucidity, where our brain is more open to our environment, are the moments in which we have greater lucidity to solve problems, analyze data, etc. That is, they would be “more productive” moments for you and it also turns out that everyone has different moments at different times.

On the other hand, on other occasions, we can spend hours and hours developing a job and be aware that we are stagnating, that we are not moving forward and we have wasted precious time... (your time is money) but we continue there because we have to finish it. at whatever price, and normally we will get a churro as a result for our stubbornness, or in the best of cases a mediocre result and not the excellence that we all want.

So my recommendation is that you discover these cycles in your daily life and be able to organize your agenda based on these moments of greater lucidity.
If you manage to do this, you will be benefiting your productivity and that means that:

  • You will achieve your objectives to a greater degree and efficiency.
  • And/or you will save costs, since you will be able to get rid of unnecessary elements to achieve your objectives.
  • And/or you will save time, which will allow you to perform a greater number of tasks in less time and with less effort.
  • And/or your management will be more agile and therefore more flexible when responding to changes.

I hope this post has been useful to you. Greetings!!!
